C.N.Y. Cooking Club
You think that this post is about a club I attended during C.N.Y.(Chinese New Year), you're wrong, cause' what you're about to read is related to my C.N.Y. break. I almost cooked everyday during CNY! On Monday and Tuesday, my parents were still home, so I just went out with them. On Wednesday, I cooked 4 things. 1st, I cooked cheese-baked potatoes. I baked it until the cheese was runny and soft. 2nd I cooked a thing called "Nuts n' Bolts", a recipe I found from a Paula Deen cookbook. It was a combo of crunchy cereals and nuts, with a salt, butter, and worcestershire sauce dressing. 3rd I cooked Peanut Butter Balls. I put peanut butter, honey, and crushed nuts. Then I spooned one drop on the wax paper, and I kept doing that until the paper was filled with a gooey mixture. Lastly, I froze it until it got hard and chewy. 4th I cooked (maybe made is a better word) "Orangeade". It is just a mixture of orange juice, water, and sugar. It tasted exactly like its name: Orange lemonade! Then I had a food party with my helpers and brother. On Thursday, I made some tuna melts(tuna, mayonnaise, onions, and cheese burger), also another recipe from a Paula Deen cookbook. 2nd I mage a fish n' chips thingy, from a frozen package of pre-made fish. That was my lunch. After that I made a frozen yogurt-ice treat, and then I made a dish of mini toast with garlic bread dressing. It was yummy. A Mission For You!!!!
Attention all kind and caring ladies and gentlemen! Your writer Rachey has an important mission for you! You should know this;there are lots of people out there in need while we are having a luxurious life. My school has been and is supporting two Christian societies that help people in need, mostly children, and they help kids become a Christian. One of them is Chrestos Mission, and their refugee camp site is located in Burma. The children's parents have been taken away by some kind of army, and each year, our school raises money so that the kids can have medicine and food. Our class is also continuously praying for a child in the refugee camp, and so are other classes. Another society is Christian Action. They help non-Christian families to become Christians, and also give them food and shelter. Yearly, my school invites each student to use a shoe box and put some useful and small gifts in for the children and their families. We mainly put toothbrushes ,toys, and school supplies. Please put these two societies in mind and pray for them or donate to them. Thanks if you are going to help. For more information on Chrestos Mission, visit http://chrestos-mission.org. Lady "KaKa"
You know, most people should have at least heard about Lady GaGa. Recently, I have been hearing some songs by her, and my brother usually stands by me as I rock my head off. Since he kind of likes the songs by Lady GaGa, I decided to teach him to say the word Lady GaGa. Suprisingly, I did not mention anything to him, but he started to say those words. As you might not know, my brother calls me "KaKa". So once her starts to say "Lady GaGa", it always ends up as "Lady KaKa". My helpers and I laugh at that. Don't you think it's a funny joke? Go to this website if you want to hear a song by Lady GaGa:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ll8OJNDd79E

Testing Days
During the past 2 weeks I was exhausted because I had to do MAP testing, which stands for Measures of Academic Progress. So boring. We had to face the computer for 50 minutes and answer these hard questions. The teacher said some of the questions are hard, and she made it seem so easy until she told us that there were questions that are 8th grade questions. She is so crazy. Dude, I'm only in 5th grade. They think I'm in 8th grade or somtething I just hate hate and hate the testing period. I can't believe my math score is higher than my reading and language score. Everybody talks about their score after testing and it gets really annoying because people boast about their perfect grades. I just don't like it .

A Park Story
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. Times when I don't have homework, you will never guess what I do: I go to the baby park with my brother. It's times when I don't have piano lessons and times when I don't have a lot of homework. This park story is especially special to me, because that day on I could do something I never could do before. That is, my good buddies from my neighborhood taught me how to control myself on the monkey bars. Before, I had thought that it would be impossible for me to play it, but then, these new friends met me and then we played together. Those two sisters are the best at monkey bars. They could skip any other and swing, hang on the sides, and cross each other when they are playing. This day, when both of them were on the bars, I felt like trying it, because seeing them swing is so boring. I jumped up, held tight, and started to swing. I touched the other bar, and I kept repeating this till I got to the end. Hurray!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I did it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! From that day on, every free time was my best time to go down to the park. I kept practicing, and soon enough, I could also climb the sides. So any time I thought something was hard, I would say to myself, "Practice Makes Perfect."

Year Of The Ox
Last night at twelve, I stayed up with my dad to watch Chinese New Year stuff. At twelve o'clock sharp, we could hear sounds of fireworks. People that live up on the hills must be burning fireworks. Luckily, we did not go to Central and stroll in the flower markets, because there are too many people. Although I guarantee that it would be extremely fun, I still did not go for once in my 9 1/2 years of life. As I think back to the beautiful memories of my younger years, I remember a lot of Chinese New Year celebrations with my grandparents and great-grandma. We ate Chinese cakes and candy, flower seeds and chicken. I most loved the radish cake and brown sugar cake because: 1. The brown sugar cake is fried with egg, my favorite way which is scrambled egg. 2. The radish cake is made my my 92 years old great-grandma. It gives me a lot of joy to know that she is still able to make things unlike other elderly that cannot walk or eat. It's a good thing schools are closed during a time when we most likely would go visit our relatives. To me, Chinese New Year is very important because it reminds me that only in Asian countries people celebrate this festival. Especially because I am a Chinese, this festival tells me that Chinese people have the strength to start a very unique festival with lots of food that the Chinese had invented themselves. This year, it is the year of the ox, and I hope in the year of the ox (2009), the workers that were affected by the financial tsunami would quickly get a new job, the people that had survived in the Sichuan earthquake would have some more people help them in reconstructing Sichuan, and that Mr. Barack Obama would do a good job to help the Americans go through financial problems and governmental problems.

Math (Multiplication)
Math is hard for a fourth grader like me. Especially when it comes to double and triple digit multiplication. Well, now I find it easy in a way, and hard in a way. Math is easy, when someone else teaches and guides you through hard problems. This is what happened last night: my dad taught me several ways to multiply more than 1 digit multiplication. He taught me how to be careful when we come to tricky problems, and he showed me different examples of trick problems. Then, he taught me different ways to solve number stories using division and multiplication. Although we were both very tired that night, we both knew that we should keep practicing because practice makes perfect. Math is hard, when you are alone, struggling to find the answer to a difficult problem that no one told you it was that hard. I was doing a math problem, and it says to solve the problem using the lattice method. I had been listening in class, but at home, I suddenly forgot how to do it. For 15 minutes, I was just trying to think about the strategy. It was hard for me to turn in my paper without a explanation of the lattice method. I had to admit that I was a little bit daydreaming in class. (Sorry teacher!) Math can be tricky, but just as long as you remember that practice makes perfect, then when you keep practicing, you will make great progress.
